Stm extends move along order to April 30, 2027
The STM extended its move along order across its network until April 30, 2027, keeping in place a rule that lets special constables intervene when facilities are used for non-transit purposes. stm said the measure has helped improve safety and conditions in the metro, and the agency applied it nearly 2,500 times per month during the winter period.
Aref Salem on stm safety
Aref Salem, the STM board chair, said in a statement that "improving the sense of safety is key to attracting more riders". He also said "the move along order is only one part of a broader approach" and that "the agency will continue refining its measures to enhance security across the network".
Winter data from stm
The STM said an analysis of winter operational data showed several indicators improved or held steady after the order began in mid-March 2025. The number of interruptions linked to intentional disruptive behaviour declined, and fewer people were escorted out of stations at closing time.
From November 2025 to March 2026, the number of people escorted out at closing time fell by 36 per cent from the same period a year earlier. Escorts during operations fell by two per cent, interventions by special constables for incivility were down two per cent, and assaults on employees remained unchanged.
April 30, 2027 deadline
The STM also reported a 22 per cent drop in service interruptions lasting five minutes or more because of disruptive behaviour. For riders and employees, the extension keeps the same network-wide rule in place through April 30, 2027, while the agency continues to use the order as one part of its security approach.
