Three Ostroushko family members charged in Turning Point Usa case

Federal prosecutors charged three members of the Ostroushko family in connection with the April 11 confrontation outside the Whipple Federal Building, where Turning Point USA reporter Savanah Hernandez said she was “mobbed and assaulted.” The case moved forward with federal summonses and a May 12 court date for Christopher Ostroushko, Deyanna Marie Ostroushko, and Paige Ostroushko.

April 11 at Whipple Federal Building

The confrontation came during an anti-ICE demonstration outside the Whipple Federal Building. Hernandez, who reports for Turning Point USA, said on X that she was “mobbed and assaulted,” and video of the encounter later circulated on news outlets across the country.

At least four people were arrested after the clash on April 11. The federal case now names three of them: Christopher Ostroushko, Deyanna Marie Ostroushko, and Paige Ostroushko.

Federal charges on April 28

Federal prosecutors charged the three family members in U.S. District Court on April 28, and the charges were unsealed on April 29. Christopher Ostroushko and Paige Ostroushko were charged with interference with a federally protected activity and assault. Deyanna Ostroushko was charged with assault.

Todd Blanche said Hernandez was allegedly “surrounded, physically assaulted, and shoved to the ground — simply because she was identified by the defendants as a conservative journalist.” Daniel Rosen added, “Political violence is a national scourge and federal law enforcement will not tolerate it.”

Hennepin County case

Hennepin County also charged Christopher Ostroushko on April 29 with misdemeanor fifth-degree assault. Mary Moriarty said, “Mr. Ostroushko forcefully shoved the victim in the back, head first to the ground,” in announcing the county charge.

The family’s attorney, James Cook, said the husband and wife have lost their jobs over the allegations. Paige Ostroushko also said on a fundraising page she started on her behalf, “This led to emotional distress and a confrontation,” and wrote that she experienced head, neck and knee injuries.

All three federal defendants were charged by summons and have a May 12 court date scheduled. Hernandez later posted, “I’m EXTREMELY grateful to the (Department of Justice) for moving so swiftly on this.”
