Bianca Andreescu Enters Roland Garros Qualifying for May 18
Bianca Andreescu enters Roland Garros qualifying next month, giving her a route back into the French Open main draw after missing the 2025 tournament because of injuries. The former Top 10 player and 2019 US Open champion is in a field that can send 16 players into the 128-player main draw.
Andreescu’s Paris path
Qualifying begins on May 18, and Andreescu is among the players trying to secure one of the 16 berths available through that route. Main-draw entry was confirmed two weeks before the qualifying field was announced, leaving the qualifying slate as the final step for players outside the direct entry group.
Her return bid carries a clear Paris record behind it. Andreescu reached the third round at Roland Garros in back-to-back years in 2023 and 2024, so the qualifying draw gives her a chance to get back to the same stage of the tournament after the injury absence last year.
Pliskova, Stephens, Badosa
Andreescu is not the only former top player in the qualifying field. Karolina Pliskova, Sloane Stephens, Paula Badosa and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova were also entered, adding more established names to a draw that will shape the final main-draw field in Paris.
That group gives qualifying unusual weight for players trying to reach the year’s second Grand Slam. Eight wild cards are expected to complete the French Open field of 128 players, so the qualifying spots and the wild-card places together decide the last openings in the bracket.
French Open field
For Andreescu, the assignment is straightforward: get through qualifying and back into the main draw at Roland Garros. She has already shown she can advance in Paris, and the next round of the event begins with qualifying on May 18.
The field announced so far leaves her in direct competition for one of the 16 spots that can still change the makeup of the French Open draw. The other names in qualifying ensure the route will be crowded, but the opening stays the same — win enough matches next month and she is back in Paris.
