Gretchen Whitmer announces 40 jobs in Adrian Steel expansion
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced that Adrian Steel Company will expand in Adrian, bringing 40 new jobs to Lenawee County and adding a 112,000-square-foot addition to the company’s existing facility. The project carries a total investment of $43,453,278 and is slated to add at least 40 jobs over the next five years.
The Michigan Strategic Fund Board approved the expansion plan and backed it with a $320,000 performance-based grant through the Michigan Business Development Program. It also approved a five-year State Essential Services Assessment that will fully cover certain taxes on $25,791,240 in eligible equipment and other personal property, with incentive value up to $228,751.

The addition will create more space for raw material storage, cutting, forming, welding, painting, assembly, office functions, and shipping operations. Whitmer said, “Michigan is on the move and open for business, competing for and winning big projects in industries like steel manufacturing.” She also said, “Today’s announcement will create 40 good-paying jobs and cement Michigan as the best place to build the future. Let’s keep working together to create good-paying jobs, bring supply chains home from overseas, and tell Michigan’s story.”
Officials said the planned expansion is the company’s largest investment in Michigan since 1953. Adrian Steel is headquartered in Adrian and has grown into a nationwide leader in automotive aftermarket equipment and cargo management solutions for skilled trades.

The state package does not stand alone. Additional tax relief is expected from a property tax abatement from the City of Adrian and a State Education Tax reduction approved by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
Lisa Hewitt-Cruz, the city’s community development director, said, “The City of Adrian recognizes Adrian Steel Company as a valued and longstanding community partner.” She added, “For generations, Adrian has invested in our community, provided quality employment opportunities for our residents, and contributed to the economic strength and stability of our city.”
Adrian Steel also regularly supports organizations and initiatives throughout Adrian by donating time, funding, and resources, making the company’s expansion a local hiring and investment story with state and city incentives attached.
