Chris Wood Booing At Stadium of Light After Forest Loss
chris wood was not the issue in Sunderland’s heavy Friday defeat to Nottingham Forest, but the reaction after the game became the story. Bob Hitch, who has backed Sunderland for over sixty five years, said the booing and the sight of supporters leaving early were very disappointing.
Bob Hitch Stands By Sunderland
“The Nottingham Forest game was very disappointing by the team but my biggest was the reaction by some so-called supporters,” Hitch wrote. He added: “The performance wasn’t good enough but to hear booing and to see people leaving early was very disappointing for me.”
Hitch’s view came from someone who has been in the stands for a long stretch. “I’ve supported Sunderland for over sixty five years and now attend with my son and two grandsons,” he said. That makes his criticism of the crowd response sharper than a routine complaint about a bad result.
Régis Le Bris Under Pressure
Sunderland were 0-4 down at half time against Nottingham Forest, and Phil wrote that the loss was by far the worst performance of Régis Le Bris’ time in charge. The margin left little room for argument about why the home support turned so quickly.
Phil also said swathes of rapidly-emptying seats never look great in person or on the TV. He wrote that Friday’s loss and the witless nature of it may have been too dispiriting for some fans to deal with, and said he could not see a workable solution to fans leaving early.
Stadium Of Light Reaction
The debate is likely to return after more home losses or sub-par performances, but this one was driven by the scale of the defeat and the speed of the exit. For Sunderland supporters in the Stadium of Light, the issue is no longer just the result; it is how quickly frustration turns into a visible emptying of the ground.
