Shubman Gill Leads Gujarat Titans Past Bengaluru in Indian Premier League
Gujarat Titans beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru by four wickets in the indian premier league on Thursday in Ahmedabad, finishing on 158-6 in 15.5 overs after holding Bengaluru to 155. Shubman Gill’s 43 led the chase, while the result moved Gujarat to No. 5 with 10 points and left Bengaluru at No. 2 with 12.
Gill anchors Gujarat’s chase
Gill said the win was “Feels very satisfying” after Gujarat handled the pressure of a target that looked manageable but still asked for a clean finish. Jos Buttler supplied the burst that turned the chase, scoring 39 off 19 balls as Gujarat crossed the line with four wickets in hand.
That finish also settled a rematch from last week, when Bengaluru had beaten Gujarat by five wickets after Gujarat posted 205-3. This time Gujarat answered with a tighter chase and a cleaner defense, taking the result back on home soil in Ahmedabad.
Bengaluru held to 155
Bengaluru’s total never got away from Gujarat. Virat Kohli made 28, but the innings ended at 155 as Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 3-28, Romario Shepherd 2-30 and Kagiso Rabada 1-44.
Josh Hazlewood was expensive, conceding 56 runs, and Gill pointed to the bowling and fielding effort after the second over as the turning point. “On a wicket like this, restricting them to under 160 was a tremendous job by the bowlers. Our fielding was one of the things … and how we came back together (after the second over) was pleasing,” he said.
Table pressure in Ahmedabad
The standings shift is the sharpest consequence for both teams. Gujarat climbed to 10 points and sits fifth, while Bengaluru stayed second on 12, keeping the gap between the sides narrow even after Gujarat took this head-to-head win. Rahul Tewatia was listed as Gujarat’s impact player, adding another selection wrinkle to a side that now has a cleaner look after a split with Bengaluru across two meetings.
For Gujarat, the result turns last week’s loss into a one-game exchange rather than a season-defining setback. For Bengaluru, the points total still keeps them near the top, but the margin for error has tightened after a chase that never fully escaped Gujarat’s control.
