Luke Littler Tops Premier League Darts Table After Aberdeen Win
Luke Littler beat Luke Humphries in Aberdeen to move back to the top of the premier league darts table. The 19-year-old won his fifth night of the season and tightened his hold on the race toward the O2 Arena play-offs on 28 May.
Littler Edges Humphries In Aberdeen
Littler closed out a last-leg decider after Humphries pushed him all the way to the wire. Humphries broke in leg seven after Littler missed the bullseye, then held in leg eight to move within one leg of his first night win of the year.
Littler answered with three legs in a row to swing the final back his way. He broke again in leg 10, then finished with his fourth match dart after missing three match darts on double 10.
Humphries Pushes The Final
The numbers were tight. Littler averaged 104.11 in the final, while Humphries finished on 103.10, and Humphries reached only his second final of the season.
This was the fourth last-leg decider between the pair in 13 weeks, another sign that the top of the table is being decided by small margins rather than runaway wins. Littler also moved to one night win away from matching his record-breaking tally of six wins from last year.
Play-off Race At The O2 Arena
Luke Littler and Jonny Clayton are already guaranteed places at the season-ending play-offs at London’s O2 Arena, leaving two spots still open. Michael van Gerwen, a seven-time winner, sat in the final play-off berth after his quarter-final loss to Humphries, and Humphries’ win over him came with a huge relief and an animated fist pump.
Littler said after the Aberdeen match: "I always want to be on the top and I think Jonny [Clayton], I don't know if he's much bothered about it". He added: "He just wants to get to the O2 and, obviously, we've both got Qs next to our names." Littler finished by saying: "Now it is just time to chase and hopefully break my own records."
