Alabama Baseball Slips to No. 17 Seed in D1Baseball Projection
Alabama baseball was projected as the nation’s No. 17 overall seed on Tuesday, April 28, after a rough SEC stretch pushed the Crimson Tide back from the top 16 line. That slot keeps Alabama close to regional-hosting territory, but it also leaves little margin as the regular season enters its final run.
Alabama’s seeding drop
The projection came after Alabama entered its weekend home series against Vanderbilt at 29-16 overall and 10-11 in the SEC. The Tide had dropped each of their last three conference sets to Arkansas, Texas and Tennessee, a slide that came after they won three of their first four SEC sets.
That earlier start included home sweeps over Florida and Auburn, but the recent results changed the picture. Alabama also took an 11-2 loss at home to UAB in a midweek nonconference game during the same stretch, adding another setback to a resume that had looked much stronger early in league play.
Tallahassee Regional picture
D1Baseball placed Alabama as the No. 2 seed in the Tallahassee Regional, with Florida State projected as the No. 16 overall seed. TCU and North Florida were also projected in that regional, which leaves Alabama on the outside of the top 16 and short of the automatic hosting line tied to that group.
The gap is the issue. Alabama is still in striking range, but the projection shows how much the next few games matter after the recent conference skid. A top 16 national seed would be needed to secure hosting status, and Alabama’s current slot leaves it needing help in addition to wins.
Vanderbilt and the finish
Vanderbilt arrives first, with a three-game home series later that week. After that, Alabama still has SEC series against South Carolina and Ole Miss, plus a midweek road trip to Troy, giving the Tide three SEC series remaining and one more nonconference trip before the regular season ends.
For Alabama, the path is clear even if the room for error is gone. The Tide need to turn the recent slide before the bracket is set, because the difference between No. 17 and the top 16 is the difference between playing from a projected regional spot and pushing back toward hosting territory.
