Grant Mordini Commits to Kansas After Monday Visit
Grant Mordini committed to Kansas on Thursday, giving the Jayhawks a 6-foot-10 center who visited the program on Monday. His decision adds frontcourt depth and makes him the 11th scholarship player on Kansas’s roster for next season.
Grant Mordini Joins Kansas
Mordini announced the move in an Instagram post three days after the visit and said he will be on scholarship at Kansas. In his post, he wrote, "I also want to thank Coach (Bill) Self, Coach (Joe) Dooley and the entire Kansas coaching staff for giving me this incredible opportunity."
He had options before choosing Kansas. Mordini held offers from Kansas City and Division II Franklin Pierce University, but he said Kansas stood out because of the program’s profile and the chance to play there.
Avon Old Farms To Lawrence
Mordini previously played at Lake Forest High School in Illinois before taking a postgraduate year at Avon Old Farms in Connecticut. He earned All-Founders League honorable mention there, then moved on to the recruiting stage that ended with the Kansas commitment.
He described the call from Kansas as a milestone, saying, "So, you know, obviously getting that call was a dream come true, and it was an amazing feeling." He also told JayhawkSlant.com, "I mean, Kansas is one of the top programs in college basketball, and it’s always been a dream of mine to play for a program like that."
Kansas Roster Shape
The commitment gives Kansas its sixth player in the 2026 freshman class after the program had already added five. It also brings the roster to 11 scholarship players for next season, with one remaining walk-on listed on the roster framework provided.
For Kansas, Mordini’s arrival lands in a frontcourt that already includes Paul Mbiya, Keanu Dawes and Christian Reeves. His addition gives Bill Self another big body to work with as the roster fills out around the 2026 class.
