Connor McDavid's Mcdavid Contract Locks In $25 Million Oilers Extension

Connor McDavid signed a two-year, $25 million mcdavid contract with the Edmonton Oilers, keeping the captain in place through the 2027-28 season. The deal gives Edmonton a clear two-year control window after two straight Stanley Cup Final losses to Florida.

McDavid And Draisaitl

The extension carries a $12.5 million annual average value, which puts McDavid below Leon Draisaitl’s $14 million mark. Draisaitl signed an eight-year, $112 million extension in September 2024 and became the highest-paid player on the Oilers at $14 million per season.

Oilers Pressure In Edmonton

Edmonton’s recent run has added weight to the number. The Oilers lost the 2024 Stanley Cup Final in seven games to the Florida Panthers, then dropped the 2025 final in a more decisive loss to the same opponent.

A source said almost two years ago, “McDavid wants to play in LA. It’s going to happen, will be a logistical issue, but you can be sure of this one.” That makes the two-year term more than a payroll line; it leaves Edmonton with a short runway to reshape the roster while McDavid is still under contract.

For the Oilers, the practical change is simple: McDavid is now locked in through 2027-28 at a lower cap hit than Draisaitl, and the next two seasons will define how much more the club can build around its captain before that window closes.
