Environment Canada issues Niagara frost advisory for Thursday night
Environment Canada issued a frost advisory for Niagara on Thursday for Thursday night into Friday morning, warning that patchy frost could form as temperatures dipped to near or below freezing. The advisory also covered much of southern Ontario and warned of possible damage to plants, trees and crops.
Niagara and southern Ontario
Niagara was included in the advisory when Environment and Climate Change Canada posted it Thursday. The weather service said the colder stretch would affect much of southern Ontario, not just the Niagara area, before temperatures began to warm on Friday morning.
The forecast called for a high of 10 C on Friday after the overnight chill. In the afternoon, there was a 30 per cent chance of showers.
Friday morning forecast
For residents and growers in Niagara, the practical concern was the overnight timing: the frost risk was centered on the period from Thursday night into Friday morning, when the temperature could slip to near or below freezing. Plants, trees and crops were the listed targets of the warning.
By Friday morning, temperatures were expected to heat up, easing the frost threat as the day went on. The advisory left Niagara with a brief cold snap after recent hot sunshine, before a warmer Friday and a chance of afternoon rain.
