Margot Robbie lifts Focus to No. 7 on HBO Max worldwide
Margot Robbie’s Focus reached No. 7 on HBO Max worldwide on April 29. The 2015 crime thriller is doing that while sitting outside the U.S. HBO Max lineup, which makes the run more about regional reach than broad platform ubiquity.
Will Smith and Jess Barrett
Focus stars Will Smith and Margot Robbie as the con artists Nicky Spurgeon and Jess Barrett. Glenn Ficarra and John Requa co-wrote and co-directed the film, which grossed $158.8 million against a reported budget of roughly $50 million.
Fourteen regions on HBO Max
The movie is charting on HBO Max in 14 different regions, and on April 29 it peaked at No. 2 in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Slovenia. A title that old usually needs a fresh platform push or a cast-driven search bump to re-enter the conversation at that scale; here, it is doing both without a U.S. HBO Max presence.
Netflix exit on May 1
In the United States, Focus is currently on Netflix and is set to leave the service on May 1. That leaves a short window for anyone who wants to catch Robbie and Smith in a film that later linked them again in Suicide Squad and now has another life as a streaming chart performer.
