$1.515 Million Estee Lauder Class Action Settlement Advances

Estée Lauder has reached a $1,515,000 proposed estee lauder class action settlement over two 2023 data breaches. The money would resolve claims tied to May and July incidents that potentially exposed personal and financial information across Canada. Approval now rests with the Superior Court of Quebec.

Superior Court of Quebec on June 3

$1,515,000 is the amount Estée Lauder has agreed to pay to settle all claims, according to the proposed deal. The company denies all allegations and liability, and the parties said they settled to avoid the risk and expense of continued litigation. The case is set to be heard on June 3.

Two data breaches in May and July of 2023 sit at the center of the case. Anyone whose private or financial information was held by Estée Lauder during the May 31, 2023, or July 12, 2023, incidents may be eligible for compensation, along with people notified by the company after the breach.

Claims Up To $5,000

Up to $5,000 is available for documented out-of-pocket losses tied to the breaches. That is the highest payment under the proposal for people who can support their losses with documents.

$150 is the fallback payment for a valid claim without supporting documents if the person was affected by one of the two incidents. $300 is available without supporting documents if the person was affected by both incidents. Payments may rise proportionally if money remains after substantiated claims are paid, or fall proportionally if approved claims exceed the available fund.

Objections Due May 14, 2026

May 14, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. eastern time is the deadline for written objections to the settlement. If the court approves the proposal, the claim form will be posted on the settlement website after June 3, giving eligible Canadians a path to seek payment before the objection deadline closes the record.
