Adam Wharton tipped to leave Crystal Palace in summer move
adam wharton has been tipped to leave Crystal Palace in the summer transfer window, with former Premier League striker Clinton Morrison saying Liverpool or Manchester United could sign the 22-year-old midfielder. Morrison said Wharton will probably move and described him as one of several midfielders in a summer merry-go-round.
“There'll be a merry-go-round of midfielders this summer with the likes of [Elliot] Andersen and [Sandro] Tonali being linked everywhere, but I think Wharton will be one who goes. You've got to act when the iron's hot,” Morrison said.
Morrison on Wharton
Morrison told Freebets.com that “Any of the top six [could sign him]. Liverpool or United specifically — he'd go in there and do well. He needs to add more goals and stay fit consistently, but when you join a top club and work with top players, your game evolves naturally.”
He added: “Same with England — if he's in a squad with top midfielders, he has to compete and he'll raise his level. I do think he'll probably move in the summer. He deserves it — he's a talent. He's got a good agent. Fantastic footballer, always looking forward.”
Manchester United midfield plans
Manchester United have been told that Wharton will leave Crystal Palace in the summer transfer window, and the club are expected to sign two midfielders. United are losing Casemiro from the final third through his departure, after he scored eight Premier League goals this season.
Seventy-five per cent of Casemiro's Premier League goals this season were assisted by Bruno Fernandes. Manuel Ugarte was deployed against Leeds United earlier this month because of a minor injury issue, while Morten Hjulmand, Angelo Stiller, Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni have also been linked with United.
Liverpool and United links
Wharton has been repeatedly linked with Liverpool and Manchester United, putting him among the midfield names expected to move as clubs look to add in that area. Morrison's comments place Liverpool and United at the front of that conversation, with Wharton's age, profile and recent links keeping him central to the summer market.
If United do move on two midfielders, Wharton sits in a crowded field rather than a clear solo target, and Morrison's view points to a transfer chase that could involve several clubs at once. For Crystal Palace, the immediate issue is whether a player Morrison expects to move can be kept beyond the summer window.
