Tiernan Lynch Targets Three Wins as Bohemians Vs Derry City Looms
Derry City head into bohemians vs derry city on Friday evening with a clear target: three league wins in a row for the first time this season. Tiernan Lynch takes his side to Phibsborough knowing a result would pull them closer to the European places, where Bohemians currently sit.
Lynch And The Three-Win Chase
Derry's recent run has changed the mood around the group. A fortnight ago they won away to Shelbourne in Drumcondra, then followed it by beating Shamrock Rovers at Find Insurance Celtic Park last week. That ended a season in which they had already been through a seven-game winless run, and it has left them within three points of the teams in the European places.
The assignment now is sharper than the last two. Away to fourth-placed Bohemians, Derry can turn a good stretch into a proper climb, but only if they repeat the control that got them past Shelbourne and Shamrock Rovers. Lynch's side also have the added edge of trying to answer a loss to Bohs earlier this season in round three, when Dawson Devoy scored the decisive goal with a free-kick at the Ryan McBride Brandywell.
Bohemians At Phibsborough
Bohemians arrive with their own form line under pressure. They were unbeaten in their opening ten games, but have now lost three consecutive matches against Sligo Rovers, St Patrick's Athletic and Shamrock Rovers. Last Friday's 3-1 defeat to St Patrick's Athletic stung most after Markus Strods scored inside the first minute, only for Ryan Edmondson to score twice and Jamie Lennon to add another.
That slide leaves Bohs trying to defend a European place they had held through the first part of the season. Their margin for error is already tighter because Derry are only three points back, and Friday evening gives the visitors a direct chance to tighten that gap in Phibsborough.
Derry City Absences
Derry still have holes to cover. Michael Duffy remains sidelined after a quad tear and has been out for the past five weeks, while Brian Maher is recovering from wrist surgery after a break sustained in preseason. Rob Slevin and Liam Boyce are also working their way back to full fitness, and James McClean could face a premature end to his playing career because of a persistent hip issue.
Those absences narrow the options, but they do not change the task. Derry have built enough momentum to make Friday more than a routine away trip: win it, and they leave Phibsborough with three straight league victories and a stronger hold on the race for Europe.
