Ildemaro Vargas Reaches 25 Games in Diamondbacks Win

Ildemaro Vargas kept his bat rolling on April 29, 2026, extending his hitting streak to 25 games in the Arizona Diamondbacks' 6-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. The streak moved him into third place on the club’s all-time list and left him one game shy of Paul Goldschmidt’s franchise mark.

Vargas on Diamondbacks history

Vargas opened the night with a single to left field in the second inning, then added a single to center field in his next at-bat. That was enough to push the streak past Tony Womack’s 2000 run for third place in Diamondbacks history, with Luis Gonzalez still holding the team record at 30 games in 1999.

The 25-game streak also keeps Vargas in rare company across the sport. Bryan Reynolds of the Pittsburgh Pirates was the last player to reach that number in 2024, and only three other players have started a season with a streak that long since 1940. Since the Wild Card Era began in 1995, there have been 64 hitting streaks of at least 25 games.

Road streak and season form

Vargas’s road hitting streak reached 18 games, tying the Diamondbacks record held by Stephen Drew in 2010 and Junior Spivey in 2002. He has also recorded a hit in all 22 games he has played this season, and the 25-game streak dates back to last season.

Arizona had four more road games left after Wednesday, giving Vargas a direct shot at another piece of franchise history if the streak survives the trip. If he plays in all four and keeps it going, he would have a chance to tie Gonzalez when the Diamondbacks return to Chase Field next Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
