Donnie Yen has started filming his john wick spin-off, and the actor-director marked the occasion with a clapperboard image and the words, “Here we go….” The project will center on Caine, the blind assassin introduced in John Wick: Chapter 4, moving the franchise into another production phase after the spring 2025 CinemaCon announcement.

He was forced out of retirement in John Wick: Chapter 4 to carry out a mission tied to the High Table, then secured his freedom by the end of the film. The new movie extends that thread rather than resetting it, which keeps the character’s stakes tied to what already happened in the main series.

Akira, played by Rina Sawayama, is still pursuing Caine for revenge over the death of her father, Shimazu Koji. The continued use of Caine and Akira also gives the project a clearer business purpose than a brand-new character launch.
