Brewers Vs Nationals: Milwaukee Seeks Response After 18-10 Sweep

The brewers vs nationals rematch arrives in Washington, D.C. with Milwaukee trying to answer an 18-10 sweep from three weekends ago. The Brewers are 16-14 and have gone 8-7 since that series, while Washington is 15-17 after an 8-9 stretch of its own.

Milwaukee’s early-season test

That earlier three-game set at home ended badly for Milwaukee, which was outscored 18-10. Since then, the Brewers have taken series from the Blue Jays, Marlins and D-backs, but they also dropped series to the Tigers and Pirates, leaving this trip with a clear edge of urgency rather than comfort.

Brice Turang has been the most productive bat in the lineup. He is hitting.291/.422/.505 with four homers, eight doubles, 20 RBIs, 26 runs and seven steals, and he sits at the center of a club line that is still uneven:.241/.338/.364 as a group.

Milwaukee’s offense has produced in volume in one area and lagged in another. The Brewers rank sixth with 160 runs and are tied for first with 36 steals, but their.702 OPS is 20th, they have only 22 homers, and that total ranks 28th.

Christian Yelich and the Brewers injuries

Christian Yelich remains sidelined with a groin strain after going down in the previous series against Washington. Angel Zerpa is reportedly expected to miss a big chunk of time with forearm tightness, and Brandon Woodruff exited his start early with diminished velocity, a combination that has trimmed the pitching and lineup options around the core.

Jackson Chourio and Andrew Vaughn are on rehab assignments with Triple-A Nashville, and the Brewers expect both to return on Monday in St. Louis. Quinn Priester is the closest of the other injured Brewers to coming back because he is also on a rehab assignment, while Rob Zastryzny and Jared Koenig are still out.

Washington’s pitching depth

Washington’s injury list is built around pitchers, with Clayton Beeter, Josiah Gray, DJ Herz, Cole Henry, Trevor Williams, Ken Waldichuk, Travis Sykora and Jarlin Susana all unavailable. Beeter went on the injured list earlier this week with forearm soreness, MRI results showed no structural damage, and the team expects him back in mid- to late-May.

The Nationals have kept enough offense to stay in range. They are hitting.243/.325/.393, rank 12th with a.718 OPS, and have 37 homers, which is tied for 10th.

CJ Abrams and James Wood

CJ Abrams has driven much of that work with a.296/.405/.556 line, eight homers, four doubles, 26 RBIs, 16 runs and five steals. James Wood leads Washington with 10 homers and seven doubles, and Joey Wiemer is hitting.327/.413/.582 over 23 games.

The next meeting gives Milwaukee a direct chance to close the gap from that earlier sweep while carrying a thinner injury picture than it wants. Washington already showed it can handle the Brewers at home once, and this series will tell whether the road version of Milwaukee can match its run production, protect a battered roster and avoid another reset in the standings.
