Adam Wharton Liverpool Talks Advance Over Summer Move

Adam Wharton Liverpool talks are under way, with the Crystal Palace midfielder said to be in negotiations over a possible summer move. The 22-year-old expects to leave Selhurst Park this summer, and Liverpool want him as they prepare for a midfield overhaul.

Wharton and Liverpool

A report from Matteo Moretto said Liverpool are in negotiations with Wharton and that there has already been contact between the relevant parties. Moretto also said Wharton “want him” and that he “prefers to stay in the Premier League.”

That puts Liverpool ahead of a crowded chase. Manchester United and Real Madrid were also thought to be eyeing him, but the Premier League preference narrows the field to clubs in England and keeps Liverpool in the strongest-looking position among the sides linked.

Selhurst Park to Anfield

Wharton arrived at Crystal Palace from Blackburn Rovers in February 2024 in a £22m deal and has three years left on his contract. He has played 46 times across competitions this season and posted seven assists, numbers that have pushed him into the middle of a transfer story rather than the edge of one.

His recent form has kept Palace involved in more than one competition. Last night, he played a key role in the 3-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the first leg of their UEFA Conference League semi-final.

Arne Slot’s midfield overhaul

Liverpool are expected to conduct a midfield overhaul this summer, and uncertainty is growing over Alexis Mac Allister’s future at the club. That gives Wharton a direct route into a transfer conversation that is about squad structure as much as it is about one player.

If Liverpool turn the talks into a deal, they would be adding a 22-year-old with Premier League familiarity, a long contract at Palace and a season that already includes 46 appearances. For Palace, the next step is holding onto a player who has become central to both their European run and the market around him.
