Maxey leads 76ers past Celtics 106-93 in Nba Games Tonight
Tyrese Maxey scored 30 points and the 76ers beat the Celtics 106-93 in Game 6 on Thursday at Xfinity Mobile Arena, forcing nba games tonight into a winner-take-all Game 7. Philadelphia tied the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series at 3-3 and sent it back to Boston on Saturday.
Maxey and George set the pace
Maxey kept Philadelphia ahead with his scoring, and Paul George added 23 points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block in 39 minutes. Joel Embiid did not carry the offense with volume, but he finished with eight assists and one turnover while shooting 6-for-18.
George’s line gave the 76ers another creator beside Maxey, and that mattered because Boston has eliminated Philadelphia from the playoffs in six consecutive meetings. The last time the 76ers knocked out the Celtics in the postseason was 1982.
Boston’s 3-point edge vanished
Philadelphia also held Boston under 30% shooting from 3 for the third time in the series. In Boston’s three wins, the Celtics had averaged 20 made 3s and shot 41.7% from long range, but that edge was gone in Game 6.
Jaylen Brown said after the loss, “I think we're playing into their hands a little bit,” and added, “I definitely think, even myself, the type of shots, the type of things they want us to do. That's not what we've been doing all year. But maybe a shift in your approach can open some stuff up offensively for us.”
The series now turns to Boston with Philadelphia carrying a 3-3 tie and a chance to erase a painful pattern. The 76ers have lost all 18 series in which they have trailed 3-1, so Game 7 is not just another road date; it is the latest break point for a team that has spent three weeks with Embiid back after an emergency appendectomy in Houston.
Embiid and the Celtics
Embiid said, “I've been playing these guys for so long,” and, “I'm tired of losing to them. So we have a chance to accomplish something special.” He also called Boston “a super team” and said Philadelphia must keep the same mindset it used over the last two games.
Maxey echoed that view when asked about George, saying, “He was huge, man,” and, “He was huge. Paul has been really, really good. He's been consistent. He's been a great voice, a great leader for all of us, and we appreciate him.”
