Sweden Ends Canada’s Run 4-2 at IIHF U-18 — Canadian Hockey

Sweden beat Canada 4-2 in canadian hockey quarterfinal play at the IIHF U-18 Men’s World Championship in Slovakia. The loss ended Canada’s gold medal streak and pushed Sweden into Friday’s semifinal round.

Sweden Takes Control

The 4-2 result sent Sweden through on the same day Czechia, Latvia and Slovakia also advanced from the quarterfinals. Four teams moved on, and Canada was left out after a game it needed to control early.

Canada’s streak ended in the quarterfinals, while Sweden kept its tournament alive with a two-goal margin. That scoreline was the key break from the bracket: Canada was done, Sweden stayed in the race for gold, and the semifinal field was set with Czechia, Latvia and Slovakia.

Czechia Survives Finland

Czechia edged Finland 2-1 on Wednesday behind Martin Psohlavec, who made 35 saves. He turned aside 16 shots in the second period and stopped all 12 he faced in the third, while Adam Klaus and Tadeas Cifka scored for Czechia and Paavo Fugleberg scored Finland’s only goal.

Dominik Ripa added two assists, and Klaus finished with a goal and an assist. Josef Holejšovský also helped tilt the game with three shots in the second period, and Psohlavec’s 3-0-0 record at the tournament carried Czechia into the final four.

Latvia And Slovakia Advance

Latvia beat the United States 5-2 and never trailed, a first for Latvia in this matchup. Slovakia added the widest margin of the quarterfinals with a 7-1 win over Denmark, giving the host country a place in Friday’s semifinals alongside Czechia, Latvia and Sweden.

Friday now belongs to those four teams, while Canada leaves Slovakia with its title streak over. Czechia is still chasing its first gold medal in tournament history, and its last medal was a silver in 2014.
