The Citadel Tops Presbyterian 7-2 Behind Third-Inning Burst
The citadel beat Presbyterian 7-2 on Friday night at the PC Baseball Complex in Clinton, S.C., and the difference came fast. Four runs in the third inning gave The Citadel a 4-0 lead in the opener of the three-game series.
Third Inning Separation
That early surge set the pace, and The Citadel kept adding. A sacrifice fly RBI in the fourth inning stretched the lead before Presbyterian answered in the bottom of the frame with Jonathan Williams's sacrifice fly RBI.
Presbyterian was already playing from behind, and the gap only grew after that. The Blue Hose entered at 10-36 overall and 6-12 in Big South play, so one clean inning did not leave much margin once The Citadel had taken control.
Dewberry Answers In Sixth
Amman Dewberry provided Presbyterian's loudest swing in the sixth inning, sending a solo home run to right field for his 10th of the season. It cut into the deficit, but it did not change the shape of the game because The Citadel answered again late.
Will Holmes earned the win, while Tyrell Williams took the loss after making his 10th start of the year. Williams worked 4.0 innings and allowed just two hits, but the four-run third left Presbyterian with too much ground to make up.
Late Runs Seal It
Robbie Boykin covered a season-high 4.0 innings in relief for Presbyterian and allowed one run while striking out two. Cam Mallo added a 2-for-3 line with a walk, but the offense never built a sustained rally after the sixth.
The Citadel scored again in the eighth and ninth innings to finish the 7-2 win, taking the first game of the series and opening an early edge in the set. Game two was scheduled for Saturday, May 2, 2026, at noon on +.
