William Sawalich to Drive No. 5 Toyota in Nascar Truck Series at Texas
William Sawalich will drive the No. 5 Toyota in the nascar truck series race at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend, replacing Chase Briscoe in the truck. The switch gives Sawalich another Truck Series start and ends Briscoe’s run in the No. 5 for this race.
Texas Motor Speedway switch
Briscoe finished 14th in his first Truck Series start in three years at Bristol Motor Speedway, and that race was his first in the series since 2023. He also made his first non-dirt Truck Series start since 2021 at Kansas Speedway for Roper Racing, where he placed 19th.
This weekend, though, he will not be back in the No. 5 truck at Texas. Sawalich takes over after a season that has already included a Truck Series appearance at Darlington Raceway in the No. 1 Toyota, where he finished 10th in March.
Sawalich and the No. 1
The Texas ride is a notable change for Sawalich because all 22 of his career Truck Series starts before this weekend came in the No. 1 entry. His best Truck Series result remains sixth place at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park in 2023, and he has five career Truck Series top 10 finishes.
Sawalich also arrives at Texas after winning his first career O'Reilly Series race at Rockingham Speedway earlier this month. He finished 13th at Texas in the O'Reilly Series as a rookie in 2025, so the weekend gives him a return to a track where he already has one recent national-series result and a Cup-backed Truck Series assignment.
Briscoe's short Truck Series run
Briscoe’s Bristol start was his first in the series since 2023, when Bristol still hosted its spring dirt race. He has already made one start in each of NASCAR's relaxed-restriction series for Cup drivers with at least three years of experience, and Texas will be the next stop where that track-specific lineup changes again.
For teams and drivers, the practical shift is simple: the No. 5 Toyota now belongs to Sawalich for Texas, while Briscoe steps out after one Truck Series outing at Bristol. For Sawalich, the job is more specific than a routine seat swap — he is moving into a different entry at Texas for the first time in his Truck Series career.
