Shawn Langdon Hits 345.00 mph to Set NHRA Speed Record
Shawn Langdon set the NHRA speed record on Friday with a 345.00 mph pass at South Georgia Motorsports Park. The Top Fuel driver did it in 3.724 seconds, and the run put him in line for his third No. 1 qualifier of the season and the 25th of his career.
Langdon’s 345.00 mph Pass
Langdon drove his Kalitta Air dragster to the fastest pass in NHRA history, topping the previous mark of 343.51 mph set by Brittany Force last year in Indianapolis. The speed came during NHRA’s debut at South Georgia Motorsports Park, in the fifth of 20 races in the 2026 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season.
“To see that [345 mph] pop up on the scoreboard, I think it was special for the guys. I was happy for them, especially Brian [Husen, crew chief],” Langdon said after the run. He also said, “We were able to do that testing and some people had different ideas on what they thought, if it was legit or not. We kind of talked about it and Brian was like, ‘Well, we'll just do it in the season to prove it was legit’.”

“It’s also good to be able to do that here, at this new track, in front of these new fans. I knew it was on a good run, but I was actually a little surprised because you don't really notice the mile per hour,” Langdon said. The pass gave NHRA’s newest venue an immediate benchmark, with the record falling on the track’s first major national stage.
J.R. Todd held the provisional No. 1 spot in Funny Car, Greg Anderson led Pro Stock, and Matt Smith paced Pro Stock Motorcycle. In Top Fuel, Tony Stewart moved to second after running 3.758 seconds at 334.40 mph, and Doug Kalitta was third at 3.762 seconds and 334.40 mph.
Langdon’s run gave him a clean edge in the class and reset the number everyone else now has to chase. The speed record now sits at 345.00 mph, and the rest of the field left Friday trying to catch a mark that had already moved beyond the old standard.
