Tripadvisor ranks Hoo Zoo second as Chester Zoo appears in UK zoo list

Tripadvisor’s latest traveller favourite rankings placed Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World second in the UK, while West Midlands Safari Park finished fourth. The list also included Chester Zoo among the country’s top 15 zoos. For visitors, the result keeps two West Midlands attractions near the top of a national ranking built on traveller reviews.

Hoo Zoo, Telford

Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World in Telford was ranked second overall with a Tripadvisor rating of 4.7 from 6,427 reviews. The zoo has more than 100 species of animals and 45 animatronic dinosaurs, and Tripadvisor said it was the second best zoo in the UK for the fourth year running.

That repeated position is the clearest sign in the ranking: Hoo Zoo is not a one-off entry near the top, but a place that has stayed there across four straight years. The latest list also put it ahead of better-known attractions in London, Blackpool and Edinburgh.

West Midlands Safari Park

West Midlands Safari Park was placed fourth in the UK with a Tripadvisor rating of 4.1 from 7,375 reviews. The park is known for its four-mile safari drive, which includes animals such as elephants, lions, rhinos, tigers, giraffes and zebras.

Joanne Hammick, the park’s managing director, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be recognised by Tripadvisor as the fourth best zoo in the UK.” She added: “It’s a fantastic achievement for the whole team here at West Midlands Safari Park, and a reflection of the passion, care and commitment that goes into creating memorable experiences for our guests every single day.”

Tripadvisor’s top 15

The rankings were drawn from Tripadvisor’s latest traveller favourite list covering some of the UK’s top 15 zoos. The West Midlands result leaves Hoo Zoo second and West Midlands Safari Park fourth in the same national snapshot, with Chester Zoo also among the zoos named in the wider list.

Hammick said the park would keep changing its offer after the ranking. “That said, we never stand still,” she said. “Guest feedback is incredibly important to us and plays a vital role in shaping how we grow and improve.” She added: “We listen carefully, take on board what people tell us, and use it to make meaningful changes across the Park.”

For visitors deciding between the two West Midlands sites, the numbers point to different strengths: Hoo Zoo’s higher rating and repeated second place, and West Midlands Safari Park’s larger review count and safari drive experience. Both have now been pushed back into the national spotlight by the same traveller ranking.
