Magic: The Gathering Announces The Hobbit Collector Booster Release Date
Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit Collector Booster will release worldwide on August 14, 2026, giving players and collectors a fixed date for the licensed set. The set is available for preorder now through local game stores, TCGplayer, Amazon, and elsewhere Magic is sold.
HOB and HOC set codes
Wizards assigned two set codes to the release: HOB for Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit and HOC for the eternal-legal version. That split gives retailers and players a way to distinguish the main release from the version legal in eternal formats.
The set also includes Booster Fun treatments and dazzling cards, with some of those versions shown at MagicCon: Las Vegas. The designers and Tolkien aficionados displayed some of their favorite cards there, while some secrets are being kept until closer to the set's debut.
Bilbo, Luckwearer promos
Event promos will be tied to play at local stores. Standard Showdown winners will receive a traditional foil Wood Elves promo card with artwork by Ramza Psyru while supplies last, and Commander Party participants will receive a Bilbo, Luckwearer promo card with artwork by Yigit Koroglu while supplies last.
Retailers will also carry different Bilbo, Luckwearer versions: non-foil copies at most WPN retailers and traditional foil copies at WPN Premium locations. Magic Presents: Heart of the Mountain participants will receive a traditional foil An Unexpected Party promo card with artwork by Tomas Duchek while supplies last.
MagicCon Las Vegas previews
The release returns Magic to Middle-earth and draws on The Hobbit, with Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf, and the Dwarves referenced in the announcement. For players planning ahead, the practical move is to place preorders now and track which store events will hand out the promo cards tied to each program.
