Pittsburgh Marathon 2026 Draws 52,000-Plus for Biggest Field

pittsburgh marathon 2026 is set to draw more than 52,000 participants across 11 events this weekend, the largest field in the race’s history. The weekend stretches from Saturday’s Family Day races to Sunday morning’s full marathon and half marathon, with the scale of the entry list matching the event’s growing reach.

Troy Schooley said the weekend is the biggest Pittsburgh Marathon ever. The P3R chief also pointed to the mix of elite runners, family races and charity entries that make up the field, along with a weekend that includes the 5K, the mile, the Kids Marathon and the Toddler Trot.

Troy Schooley on Pittsburgh

"It is definitely an exciting time to be a Pittsburgher and be from our region with the NFL Draft last weekend and the biggest Pittsburgh Marathon ever this weekend" — Troy Schooley said in remarks about the marathon weekend. His message lines up with the numbers: more than 52,000 participants, 11 events and a charity program that has become a major part of the race.

The Run for a Reason Charity Program will send 4,770 runners into the weekend, with support for 50 official charities and 14 contributing charities. The program is expected to raise $1.5 million this year, and a majority of the money will stay in the Pittsburgh region.

Elite Fields Return

Sunday’s half marathon brings back Everlyn Kemboi, who won the women’s race in 1 hour, 10 minutes, 6 seconds last year, and Stephanie Bruce, who is chasing her third Pittsburgh half-marathon title. On the men’s side, Dominic Ondoro returns to defend after his personal-best 1:01:57 last year, while Mohammed El Youssfi arrives with the fastest 13.1-mile time in the field at 59:21.

That men’s mark sits well under the course record of 1:01:21. Buze Diriba Kejela also adds more depth to the women’s field after posting a personal best of 1:05:57 and winning three EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler titles.

Race Weekend Depth

The full marathon field is just as loaded. Andrew Bowman won the 2024 full marathon, Will Loevner was the runner-up that year, Jared Ward placed third in the 2022 half marathon, and Jane Bareikis will go after a third consecutive women’s full-marathon title while trying to beat her personal best of 2:29:00.

Amanuel Mesel brings Olympic experience from 2012 and 2016, and Aidan Reed returns after a third-place finish in Pittsburgh in 2025. "It is a really exciting field for both races, as usual," Schooley said, and the prize money backs that up: the full and half marathons will offer a combined $102,000, with $70,000 in the half and $10,000 for each winner.

Elite runners will meet the media at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center on Friday morning, when the Pittsburgh Live Well Expo opens. By Sunday morning, the crowd will be looking at a race weekend that has outgrown its old scale and now carries a record field, a record charity push and a prize list built for front-runners.
