Clement Wants Norwich Ready for Hull City Finale — Hull Vs Norwich City
Philippe Clement wants Norwich City to treat hull vs norwich city like a chance to make their own pressure, not a dead rubber, after their faint play-off hopes ended with a draw at Swansea. The final-day trip to Hull City still carries weight because Hull City, Wrexham or Derby could take the last top-six place.
Clement’s final-day demand
Clement made the message plain: Norwich should go for three points and show they are a team of winners. “We want to go for the three points every time, and that's what I want to see from the team, and that's what I expect of them,” he said.
He also set a hard edge on selection. “If I see any player who is playing like they are already on the beach they won’t be here for pre-season.” That is the line he is drawing for a squad that is out of the race but still playing in a match with consequences beyond its own table position.
Hull City pressure on the line
The game matters because the final top-six place is still unresolved, and Norwich’s result at Hull could help shape which side finishes inside it. Clement said he wished his team could be in that play-off picture, but added, “We need to create our own tension.”
He described the week in training as sharp and energetic. “It was a good training week. It was a good dynamic in the training. It's going to be very competitive, because for Hull it's a game that they will feel like a knife is on their throat to succeed,” he said. Norwich will also be roared on by another full away end at Hull City, with travelling support set to send Neil Adams and Chris Burton into the summer.
Mahovo, Chrisene and McLean
Selection is already shaped by availability. Lucien Mahovo has been training fully with the squad for four or five days, but Clement said the medical and performance staff do not want to risk him, so he will not be in the selection. Oscar Schwartau is in light training after an injury that cut short his season, while Kenny McLean is out with a back complaint.
Ben Chrisene has gone through shoulder surgery and is in rehab now. Clement said everything went well, and that he expects Chrisene back over the summer rather than from the start of pre-season.
There is also a link back to Hull from earlier in the season: Errol Mundle-Smith made his Norwich senior debut in Hull’s 2-0 Carrow Road win. This one is different. Norwich are out of the play-off chase, but they still have a hand in a final-day scrap that could decide who joins the top six.
