Ramakrishna Ghosh Makes CSK Debut Against MI at Chepauk
Ramakrishna Ghosh made his CSK debut against Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, giving the Maharashtra all-rounder his first IPL appearance for the franchise after a quiet 2025 season without games. The move placed him back in the spotlight after CSK retained him and waited for the next opening.
Ghosh Finds His CSK Opening
Ghosh came in after years of domestic progression that began with his Maharashtra debut in the first Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match in 2022. He added his first-class debut in 2024, then stayed in CSK’s plans through 2025 even without taking the field in the league.
His path to Chepauk was built on smaller chances that he used well. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Goa, he bowled the 48th and 50th overs without conceding a run while Maharashtra needed 11 runs off 18 balls with nine wickets down.
Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Advice
Ghosh said Ruturaj Gaikwad kept the message simple in that Goa finish: “Ruturaj told me, 'Just go for the wicket-don't worry about the runs.'” He also said, “It's fantastic playing under him. Ruturaj is calm-headed and practical, always calculating comebacks.”
That link matters because Ghosh has worked under Gaikwad in two roles, as Maharashtra’s captain and now as his CSK skipper. The same player who led him domestically is now the man he has to follow in the IPL setup.
Dhoni, Staff, and Composure
Ghosh said the CSK environment has shaped how he thinks about pressure. “I'm really fortunate to have gotten a chance with CSK last year. My biggest learning? Watching MS Dhoni, Ruturaj, the coaches, and staff-they're all so calm under pressure.”
He added, “It's about smart work over hard work.” That line fits the way CSK has handled him: retained after a season without games, then handed a debut when the match against Mumbai Indians opened the door.
For CSK, the debut is a direct look at a domestic all-rounder who has climbed through state cricket, stayed inside the squad, and now gets his first shot in a high-profile IPL fixture at Chepauk. For Ghosh, the next task is simpler: make the most of the chance he waited through 2025 to get.
