Stevenage Can Seal League One Playoffs With Wigan Win
Stevenage can secure a place in the league one playoffs with a win over Wigan at Broadhall Way on Saturday, May 2nd. Six clubs are still chasing four remaining playoff spots on the final day of the 2025/26 League One season, and Stevenage control their own route.
Stevenage And Wigan At Broadhall Way
A victory is the cleanest path for Stevenage. Beat Wigan, and they go through, while the final-day math elsewhere narrows fast for the other contenders.
That leaves the rest of the chasing pack needing to watch several results at once. Bolton, Stockport, Bradford, Luton and Plymouth are the other clubs still alive for the four places that remain, but only four of the six will have their season extended by close of business on Saturday.
Bradford, Stockport And Luton
Bradford need a point to guarantee they stay in the playoffs, while Luton need to avoid defeat to join Bolton in the next phase of the promotion race. Bolton already locked up their place with a 1-1 draw at Bradford last weekend.
Stockport are the team most exposed to a late collapse. Their playoff hopes could be shattered if they lose to Barnsley at Oakwell, and Tuesday evening’s 2-1 home defeat to Port Vale put that race back in the balance.
Exeter, Leyton Orient And Burton Albion
At the other end of the table, Exeter must beat Bradford and get favourable results elsewhere to avoid the drop on Saturday. Leyton Orient and Burton Albion meet in a direct survival battle, although Burton are already safe after last week’s 1-1 draw with Exeter.
A point should be enough for Leyton Orient to avoid relegation, which gives their final-day meeting real edge even with Burton out of immediate danger. AFC Wimbledon also played a part in the wider survival picture last weekend, when Antwoine Hackford’s 90th-minute goal sealed a 1-0 win at Wigan and secured their own safety.
The split-screen Saturday leaves Stevenage with the simplest task in the division’s last round of fixtures. Win at home, and they are in; slip, and the playoff picture turns back to the tables and the permutations that have defined the final week.
