Cameron Young Leads 2026 Cadillac Championship With 64 at Trump Doral
Cameron Young opened the 2026 Cadillac Championship with an eight-under 64 at trump doral and grabbed the early lead on Thursday. The round put him ahead of a leaderboard that turned low quickly at Trump National Doral’s Blue Monster course, which hosted its first PGA Tour round in 10 years.
Young Sets the Pace
Young posted eight birdies and no bogeys, a clean card that sent him to the top by one shot over Jordan Spieth. Spieth matched the pace of the course with a seven-under 65, while Scottie Scheffler was one under through his first 18 holes.
The score mattered because the Blue Monster used to ask far more from the best players in the field. Thursday’s opening round produced the kind of numbers that suggested some of the “Monster” has been taken out of the layout.
Blue Monster Plays Open
Young said the course gave players clear targets from the tee, calling it “pretty much right in front of you for the most part. I think most of the tee shots are pretty apparent, which is what good courses give you.” He added, “I think it doesn’t try to hide anything. So learning the course wasn’t a huge deal… I think you can be pretty aggressive into a lot of the greens. They’re not particularly firm.”
Spieth’s read was shorter. He said the track was “not super tricky,” while Scheffler described it as “straightforward,” adding that “There’s not a ton of decisions off the tee.”
Scheffler and Spieth Chase
That left the first round shaped by control rather than survival. Young handled the Blue Monster without a bogey, Spieth stayed within one shot, and Scheffler kept himself in the chase after 18 holes even as the course played easier than its reputation.
The opening-day scoring leaves Young with the edge and the rest of the top names needing to pressure a course that did not force many mistakes. If the low scores continue, the winning number at Trump National Doral could sit well below what the Blue Monster once demanded.
