Gilberto Ramirez Puts 2 Cruiserweight Titles on Line vs. David Benavidez

Gilberto Ramirez puts his WBA and WBO unified cruiserweight titles on the line against david benavidez on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Ramirez enters at 48-1 with 30 knockouts, while Benavidez brings a 31-0 record with 25 knockouts into the main event.

Ramirez’s title run

Ramirez became a two-division champion in March 2024 with a decision win over Arsen Goulamirian, then added the WBO title by beating Chris Billam-Smith in his next fight. His only loss came against Dmitry Bivol in November 2022 for the WBA light heavyweight title.

He has won four fights since that defeat. The latest was a June victory over Yuniel Dorticos, a result that kept him in position for this defense and extended the momentum from his title run at cruiserweight.

Benavidez’s unbeaten push

Benavidez arrives as the current WBC light heavyweight champion and has not lost in 31 pro fights. He won the interim WBC light heavyweight belt against Oleksandr Gvozdyk before moving to full titlist last year, and he also held the WBC super middleweight title twice from 2017 to 2020.

His most recent fight ended with a stoppage of Anthony Yarde in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in November. That gives him a fresh finish heading into a matchup that asks him to jump into a cruiserweight title defense against a champion who has already handled two-division pressure.

Las Vegas card timing

The fight card begins with prelims at 5:30 p.m. ET, and the main card starts at 8 p.m. ET on Prime Video and DAZN pay-per-view. Main event ring walks are expected at around 11:30 p.m. ET, with Armando Resendiz defending his WBA super middleweight title against Jaime Munguia in the co-feature.

For fans buying into the card, the main event sits on a schedule built around late-night ring walks rather than an early feature slot. The cruiserweight titles are the center of it, but the undercard gives the show another title fight before Ramirez and Benavidez meet in the ring.
