Porto Fc Can Clinch 31st Title With Alverca Win Sunday

porto fc can clinch the Primeira Liga title with a win over Alverca at the Estadio do Dragao on Sunday. They are seven points clear with three games left, and a victory would end a four-year wait for the league crown.

Farioli’s Porto Chase 31st Crown

Francesco Farioli took charge at the beginning of the season and is now on the verge of delivering Porto’s 31st top-flight title. The club last lifted the league trophy in 2021-22, when it completed a domestic double.

Porto arrive with three straight league wins behind them. They beat Estrela Amadora 2-1 last weekend, with Deniz Gul driving that result, and they have scored two or more goals in each of their last eight top-flight matches.

Alverca Arrive With Momentum

Alverca are not coming to the Estadio do Dragao just to make up the numbers. They beat Arouca 2-1 last weekend after a 71st-minute strike from substitute Marko Milovanovic, and that result secured survival with a 12-point cushion above the relegation playoff spot.

Custodio Miguel Dias de Castro’s side have won three of their four matches in April, including victories over Rio Ave and Casa Pia after failing to win any of their previous nine games before that run. They have also scored two or more goals in four of their last six matches, which gives them a sharper edge than their season-long away record suggests.

Porto’s Home Record Stands Out

Porto have won 12 of their 15 home league matches this season, and Alverca’s trips to this fixture have rarely brought goals. They have failed to score in six of their last nine meetings with Porto, lost six of those nine, and went down 3-0 in the reverse fixture.

Farioli’s squad had no fresh injury concerns after the Estrela match, but four players remain unavailable: Samu Aghehowa, Luuk de Jong, Nehuen Perez and Zaidu Sanusi. Alan Varela is available again after serving a suspension, and Gul is expected to keep his place at number nine after scoring twice last weekend.

Porto’s recent exits from the Europa League, six days earlier, and from the Taca de Portugal after a goalless draw with Sporting Lisbon in the second leg of the semi-final have not slowed the league push. Sunday now gives them the chance to settle the title race at home rather than leave it hanging over the final three rounds.
