Canelo Alvarez Set for Saturday Card at T-Mobile Arena — Canelo Vs Benavidez
Canelo Alvarez is planning to attend Saturday’s pay-per-view card at T-Mobile Arena, keeping canelo vs benavidez in the frame even though he is sidelined from his usual Cinco de Mayo fight weekend after elbow surgery last year. The four-division champion’s appearance adds another layer to a card topped by David Benavidez at cruiserweight.
T-Mobile Arena Draws Alvarez
Eddy Reynoso said Wednesday that Alvarez will be there, and the attendance note matters because the event already centers on Benavidez’s move up to cruiserweight for the first time. Saturday’s card is being streamed by Prime Video and DAZN, with Alvarez expected to watch the action from the venue rather than the ring.
Benavidez headlines against unified WBO/WBA champion Gilberto Ramirez, a matchup that gives the night its strongest competitive edge. Benavidez enters at 31-0 with 25 knockouts, while Ramirez brings a 48-1 record with 30 knockouts.
Benavidez Meets Ramirez
That pairing also keeps Benavidez tied to Alvarez’s long-running orbit. He has been the WBC top-ranked and mandatory contender while Alvarez held the undisputed status, and this card puts the conversation back in front of the same Las Vegas crowd that has followed it for years.
Alvarez has headlined a Cinco de Mayo weekend card every year since 2015 except in 2020 and 2018. He is expected back in the ring in mid-September in Saudi Arabia, and his last fight came on Mexican Independence weekend last year, when he lost by unanimous decision to Terence Crawford.
De La Hoya Joins Card
Oscar De La Hoya will also attend in support of his fighters, including Ramirez and Oscar Duarte. That leaves Saturday’s show with multiple familiar names around it, but the center of gravity remains Alvarez showing up at a card headlined by Benavidez while the long-running matchup discussion stays alive without a bell between them.
