Celebrity Cruises Retreat Cuts Crowds on 3,000-Passenger Reflection
Celebrity cruises used the Retreat on the 3,000-passenger Celebrity Reflection to give nine relatives a faster, quieter way onboard during a three-night Easter holiday cruise out of Fort Lauderdale. The family included three grandchildren ages 4 to 8, and the boarding experience from sidewalk to ship took less than 10 minutes.
Port Everglades Check-In
At Port Everglades, Retreat suite guests used a special line reserved for Retreat guests and checked in at a private lounge with chocolate-chip cookies. That setup is the practical sell for travelers who want large-ship capacity without spending their day in the terminal line.
A recent survey of about 200 readers found that 23 percent said a cruise would need to be devoid of crowds to persuade them to take one. The Retreat answers that concern with a boutique hotel-style space inside a much larger ship, which is why it fits a passenger who likes the scale of a 3,000-passenger vessel but not the squeeze that usually comes with it.
Luminae and Michael's Club
Retreat suites include butler service and exclusive dining in Luminae, where menus include some dishes by Daniel Boulud. Guests can eat at whatever time they choose each night, and they are seated immediately when they walk in. That is a sharper level of control than the standard ship dining flow, and it turns dinner into part of the product rather than a line item.
Retreat guests on Celebrity Reflection also have access to Michael’s Club Lounge, which has leather seating, dark-wood decor, and a complimentary bar. They still can use all the restaurants and public spaces available to other passengers, so the Retreat works as an added layer of privacy rather than a separate cruise.
Reflection Versus Edge-Class
Celebrity Reflection is 13 years old, and its Retreat offer is more limited than what newer Edge-class Celebrity ships provide. On Reflection, guests get the private spaces, dining, and lounge access; on newer Edge-class ships, they also get a private sundeck, pool, hot tubs, and an outdoor bar.
That gap makes Reflection the more basic version of the concept, but not a weak one. For travelers who care most about speed, privacy, and a roomier day-to-day flow, the Retreat still gives Celebrity Cruises a clear way to sell calm inside a ship built for 3,000 passengers.
