Tamara Korpatsch Rallies Past Bassols Ribera to Reach Final
Tamara Korpatsch came from a set down to beat Marina Bassols Ribera 3-6, 6-0, 6-4 on Saturday in Girona and reach the final of the Catalonia Open Solgironès. The win sends the world No 99 into her third career final, and her second of 2026, with another chance to add to her lone WTA title.
Girona shift
Bassols Ribera took the opening set before Korpatsch reset the match with a 6-0 second set. The German then closed it out 6-4 in the decider, turning a semifinal that had started in the Spanish player’s favor into a place in Sunday’s final.
The ranking gap added a layer to the result. Korpatsch entered at world No 99, while Bassols Ribera was No 183, but the Spaniard had already taken out No 5 seed Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-2, 6-1 in the quarter-finals and carried a home crowd in Catalonia into the semifinal.
Korpatsch and Cluj-Napoca
This is familiar final territory for Korpatsch, though not by much. She won her only WTA title at Cluj-Napoca in 2023, then reached her second career final in Ostrava in February 2026 and lost. Saturday’s comeback gives her another shot at a second tour-level title.
Kasatkina in the final
Waiting on the other side is Daria Kasatkina, the No 7 seed, who has won four WTA titles. That matchup gives Korpatsch a clear test of where her game stands after a three-set semifinal that demanded a full recovery after the first set slipped away.
