Zak Brunt Sends Boreham Wood Fc Through With Extra-Time Winner

boreham wood fc ended Forest Green Rovers’ season on Wednesday night with a 1-0 win in the National League eliminator, and Zak Brunt decided it in extra time. The result knocked Forest Green out after their biggest game of the season, with one goal separating the teams at the finish.

Brunt’s Extra-Time Strike

Brunt scored the only goal of the match in extra time. That was enough to send Boreham Wood through and leave Forest Green with nothing from a tight eliminator that stayed level through normal time.

The margin was as narrow as it gets. One goal settled a match that had gone to the added period, and Boreham Wood finished the night with the single breakthrough that Forest Green could not match.

Dale Vince After The Defeat

Dale Vince described the game as “Incredible game Wednesday night at Boreham Wood, end-to-end is an understatement, some fabulous football and only one goal scored, sadly not by us”. He added, “But I didn’t feel sad after this game, I couldn’t – if I wanted to, we were so incredible, the skill and the effort on display, was just stunning – it overwhelmed the result.”

Vince also said, “And that’s been our season for the most part, great football, excitement and fun – back at FGR.” His reaction framed the defeat in the context of how Forest Green had played, not just how the scoreline ended.

Forest Green’s Play-Off Exit

He thanked Robbie Savage, Mark Bowen and Asif Rehmanwala, along with the players and fans who were part of the run. “Big thanks to Robbie Savage and Mark (Bowen) and Asif Rehmanwala – I sound like Robbie now – and to our players who gave their all,” Vince said, before adding that the fans had been “fantastic all season long and especially (like everyone else) last night in the biggest game of our season.”

Vince closed by pointing to what comes next for Forest Green. “Next season is just weeks away and we’ll do better again, I know we will, you can see it,” he said, giving the club an immediate focus after the play-off defeat rather than lingering on the exit itself.
