Joe Westley Lifts Dundee 1-0 and Scottish Premier League Table

Dundee beat St Mirren 1-0 at Dens Park and the scottish premier league table shifted with three games left. Joe Westley’s first-half finish put Dundee six points clear of the relegation play-off spot, while St Mirren dropped into it.

Westley Strikes for Dundee

The winner came in the 12th minute. Cam Congreve crossed from the right and Westley fired the ball home off the inside of Ross Sinclair’s post, giving Dundee the only goal they needed.

That early strike shaped the rest of the night. Dundee protected the lead through a second half that never produced another finish, and the margin stayed at 1-0 after the main chances came and went.

St Mirren Pressures Dens Park

St Mirren came close to changing the tone before the interval and again after it. Richard King headed a Dhanda cross on to his own post in the 20th minute, then a quick VAR check for a possible penalty in the 40th minute found no offence.

Just before the hour mark, Mikael Mandron headed just wide. Those moments kept St Mirren in range, but they did not produce the equaliser that would have kept them out of the relegation play-off spot.

Dundee’s Six-Point Cushion

Dundee made four changes to the side that lost last Sunday’s derby at Tannadice, while St Mirren made three changes from their defeat to Livingston. Steven Pressley’s side took the cleaner route on the scoreboard, and that was enough to move them six points ahead of the play-off place.

For Dundee, the result tightens their grip on safety with three Scottish Premiership games left. For St Mirren, the defeat sends them into the relegation play-off spot with the table now punishing every missed chance, every blocked cross, and every narrow escape at Dens Park.
