Gervonta Davis Talks With Floyd Schofield Set To Intensify
Gervonta Davis has not stepped into the ring since March 2025, and Floyd Schofield is now part of the conversation around his comeback. Oscar De La Hoya said real talks are coming very soon, with Schofield’s name attached to the next step.
Oscar De La Hoya Pushes Schofield
“There will be real talks happening very soon. If ‘Kid Austin’ wants to go after ‘Tank’ then, me as a promoter, that’s what I have to get him,” De La Hoya said in a media session with Fight Hub TV. He added, “As a promoter, I still feel that I would give him one more fight and then go after ‘Tank’. But, if he wants it right away — let’s go” and, “It wouldn’t be the right decision in my eyes, but if the father and the kid want it, then that’s what I’ll have to push for.”
Schofield is 23 and has not fought since June of last year, when he stopped former world champion Tevin Farmer with a first-round knockout. That win kept him in position for a larger fight, and Davis now sits near the center of that possibility as his comeback plans move ahead later this year.
Davis Returns After Recess
Davis was the former WBA lightweight champion before the WBA designated him champion in recess after his controversial draw with Lamont Roach. He has also mentioned a possible move to 140 pounds, which would change the weight picture if a Schofield fight moved forward at lightweight.
De La Hoya said he heard Davis wants to fight in the third quarter of this year, and he also referenced a rematch with Isaac Cruz as an option. For Schofield, the immediate question is whether he gets one more bout first or is pushed straight into the Davis discussion as the talks begin to heat up.
