Lando Norris Beats Oscar Piastri in Miami Sprint Win
Lando Norris beat oscar piastri to win Saturday’s Miami Sprint at the Miami Grand Prix. Piastri finished second, with Charles Leclerc third after 19 laps at the Miami International Autodrome. It was McLaren’s return to winning ways at the venue, and Norris did it from pole.
Norris Leads Piastri Early
Norris controlled the front of the Sprint from the start and crossed the line ahead of his McLaren team-mate. Piastri stayed close enough to take P2, but he could not find a way past once Norris had track position off pole. Leclerc completed the podium in P3.
The top three stayed intact at the flag, even as the race behind them shifted. Kimi Antonelli dropped from second to fourth off the line, a strong start that did not hold for long. His day changed again after the chequered flag, when a track limits violation dropped him to P6.
Antonelli and Verstappen Shift
Antonelli’s penalty changed the order below the podium. Max Verstappen crossed the line in sixth and moved up to fifth after Antonelli was demoted, while Pierre Gasly finished eighth for Alpine. That left the front of the Sprint settled, but the classification behind it still moved after the race ended.
Further back, several drivers had tougher afternoons. Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas finished P17 and P20 for Cadillac, while Alex Albon came home 19th after a late front wing change stop. Nico Hulkenberg’s car caught fire on the way to the grid, and Arvid Lindblad, who was due to start from the pit lane, never made it out on track.
Miami International Autodrome
The result gives McLaren a clear weekend marker at the Miami International Autodrome after Norris converted Friday’s pole position into victory. For Piastri, the Sprint brought another second-place finish behind his team-mate, with Leclerc the only driver to split the McLarens and the rest of the field left to sort out penalties, stops and failures. Saturday’s order was set by who stayed clean, who stayed within limits and who could hold position over 19 laps.
