Ashwin Defends 2019 Jos Buttler Run-Out With No Regrets

Ravichandran Ashwin has again defended the 2019 jos buttler run-out at the non-striker’s end, saying he has no regrets about the decision. Speaking on JioStar’s 'The Ravichandran Ashwin Experience', he said, “I did it to win, am proud of it.”

Ashwin and Buttler

The dismissal came on May 25, 2019, in a Rajasthan Royals-Punjab Kings match, with Buttler batting on 69 during a 185-run chase. Ashwin’s decision helped Punjab secure a crucial win and collect two valuable points.

He also pushed back on the criticism that followed the dismissal. “If you need two runs off one ball and you start running early, whose fault is it?” Ashwin said. “What is there to be ashamed of?”

Punjab Kings in 2019

The incident remains one of the most debated moments in IPL cricket because it sits at the line between sportsmanship and playing within the laws of the game. Ashwin’s latest comments keep that debate alive while making clear he still stands by the call he made as Punjab Kings captain.

He used part of the same discussion to praise MS Dhoni’s work behind the stumps. “His glove work has always amazed me,” Ashwin said. “I haven’t seen anyone else like him.”

For Buttler, the dismissal remains tied to a match Punjab won and to a decision Ashwin says he would make again for the same reason: to win.
