Gabby Logan Jokes About Rooney Hair on Motd
Gabby Logan joked about Wayne Rooney’s hair on motd while the panel discussed Dan Ballard’s red card in Sunderland’s 1-1 draw with Wolves. The exchange came during a live conversation about hair pulling, after Ballard was sent off in the first half at Molineux.
Rooney Reacts On Motd
Rooney set up the moment with a line of his own: “That’s why I didn’t grow a ponytail when I was playing,” before chuckling. Logan cut straight back with, “And that’s not the only reason, let’s be honest,” and Joe Hart laughed as the discussion carried on around Ballard’s dismissal.
Rooney then said, “I just can’t believe I’m sitting on Match of the Day talking about players getting sent off for pulling hair.” He added, “I think it’s ridiculous,” before pushing the point further: “I think if that’s the rule, the rule has to change because it’s getting absolutely ridiculous.”
Ballard At Molineux
Ballard was shown a red card after referee Paul Tierney reviewed the incident on Wolves striker Tolu Arokodare on the pitch-side monitor. He was judged to have pulled Arokodare’s hair, which was treated as violent conduct.
The dismissal made Ballard the third player this season to be sent off for hair pulling. Michael Keane pulled Arokodare’s hair in January, and Lisandro Martinez was shown a red for pulling Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s hair last month.
Logan, Hart And The Rule
Logan said, “Because there is a grey area.” She added, “There has to be some nuance,” and then explained, “And of course, at the moment, it sits in violent conduct.”
Hart backed up the criticism with his own verdict: “I’ve seen a lot more violent things happen this weekend and none of them punished for it.” The discussion left the issue centered on how officials are applying the law, with Ballard’s red card now part of a season-long pattern rather than a one-off call.
