Corentin Tolisso Leads Lyon Past Rennes 4-2 to Take Third — Ol Vs Rennes

Lyon beat Rennes 4-2 in ol vs rennes on Sunday at Groupama Stadium and moved alone into third place in Ligue 1. The result left Lyon two points clear of Lille and strengthened its grip on direct qualification for the Champions League with two matches left.

Tolisso Turns the Match

Corentin Tolisso changed the game in the first half. Lyon trailed after Mousa Al-Tamari scored in the 6th minute, but Roman Yaremchuk equalized in the 37th minute and Tolisso then put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot in the 41st.

That swing came after Brice Samba and Abdelhamid Aït-Boudlal were involved in the foul that led to the spot kick. Rennes had arrived unbeaten in five matches, and the penalty immediately flipped the pressure back onto the visitors.

Rennes Answers, Lyon Rebounds

Rennes found another reply early in the second half. Esteban Lepaul made it 2-2 in the 48th minute, but Lyon answered five minutes later when Afonso Moreira restored the lead in the 52nd.

From there, Rennes never recovered the control it had briefly regained. Dominik Greif kept Lyon level before the break with a reflex save on a Bréel Embolo header in first-half stoppage time, and Brice Samba later stopped Lyon from adding a fifth goal in the 78th minute.

Lyon's Third-Place Hold

Endrick finished the scoring in the 75th minute to seal Lyon's fourth consecutive victory and push the margin over Rennes to four points. Lille's 1-1 draw with Le Havre earlier in the day helped Lyon move clear in the table, while Monaco sat sixth, six points behind Lyon with an inferior goal difference.

Lyon now goes to Toulouse before hosting Lens in its final two league matches, with the third-place position giving the club a better path in the race for Champions League qualification. Michele Kang remains the president after taking control from John Textor, and the team has kept pace through a closing run that left little room for error.
