Ryan Preece Sparks Ty Gibbs Crash at Texas After Radio Rant

Ryan Preece’s anger boiled over before Ty Gibbs’ race ended in the wall on lap 101 of the Wurth 400 at Texas Motor Speedway. Preece and Gibbs made contact, and Gibbs could not continue after the crash.

Preece’s Radio Blast

Moments before the contact, Preece was overheard on the radio calling Gibbs a f---ing idiot. He also said, "I'm not going to cut you a break" when asked about racing Gibbs.

That set the tone for what followed in Texas. Preece later said, "I mean, I'll be honest with you, I hate that he wrecked, but decisions you make on the racetrack, there are repercussions, and I try to race everybody with an amount of respect that I'd like in return, and when you don't do that, you just, I'm not going to cut you a break, and that's what happened," after the race.

Gibbs Sent to the Garage

Gibbs spun into the wall after contact with Preece on lap 101, then got the car to the garage with mega vibrations from the right front. The damage ended his day with a DNF.

Afterward, Gibbs reposted Preece’s rant on X and replied, "Hmm, atleast he is honest". He also said, "I haven’t seen the replay" and added, "It broke one of the little welds on the front clip, so it probably wasn’t the best decision to go back out. We weren’t going to be fast, so we’ll go racing next week."

Texas Leaves Both Drivers Moving On

Preece finished 14th, while Chase Elliott won at Texas after taking advantage of Corey Heim’s pit stop. The incident now leaves both drivers headed for Watkins Glen next week with a fresh layer of frustration attached to the Texas result.
