Aryna Sabalenka heads the 96-player draw, which includes 76 direct entries, 12 qualifiers and eight wild cards. Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff, Iga Swiatek, Jessica Pegula, Amanda Anisimova, Elina Svitolina, Jasmine Paolini, Victoria Mboko and Mirra Andreeva are also in the field.

That list gives Rome the full top tier before the clay season turns to its final WTA 1000 stop before the French Open. The event runs through May 17, with the singles final set for May 16 at 5 p.m. local time and the doubles final on May 17 at 12 p.m. local time.

Anisimova and Navarro return

Amanda Anisimova is set for her clay debut after missing Madrid with a wrist injury, while Emma Navarro is scheduled to return to action for the first time since early March. Belinda Bencic, Naomi Osaka, Iva Jovic, Madison Keys, Emma Raducanu, Qinwen Zheng and Alexandra Eala are among the other notable names in the draw.

The last five direct entrants were Daria Kasatkina, Panna Udvardy, Kamilla Rakhimova, Oksana Selekhmeteva and Yulia Putintseva. Withdrawals listed for the event are Marketa Vondrousova, Sonay Kartal, Varvara Gracheva and Veronika Kudermetova, leaving the draw with its final set of 96 players as Rome moves from qualifying into the first round.

Foro Italico schedule

The tournament is held at the historic Foro Italico in Rome, and its timing gives the field one last WTA 1000 run on clay before Paris. Qualifying on May 4, the main draw on May 5 and the doubles start on May 10 set the order for a week that ends with the singles and doubles finals on May 16 and May 17.
