Garnacho Future Faces Chelsea Review After 41-Match Season
Chelsea may review garnacho’s future this summer after reports said the club could sell him less than eight months after his move from Manchester United. The winger has eight goals and four assists in 41 matches in his debut season at Stamford Bridge, but his form has already put him back on the market watch list.
Rosenior on Garnacho
Liam Rosenior pushed back on the report and questioned where it came from. “I’d like to know the source of the report,” he said, adding: “These reports can come from anywhere.”
He also pointed to the 21-year-old’s ceiling rather than the noise around him. “Garna is 21 years old - he is someone who has special qualities when he is in a good place and he's in good form,” Rosenior said. “And my job is to help him reach these levels.”
Leeds United and the numbers
Calum McFarlane started Garnacho in Sunday’s win over Leeds United, but the winger delivered another disappointing display. His recent finishing has been erratic, even though he has stayed brave in one-on-one situations and keeps taking on full-backs when the game turns against him.
That split is what Chelsea are weighing. Garnacho has shown enough direct running to keep stretching defenders, yet the return has been only eight goals and four assists across 41 matches, which leaves the club deciding whether the current level is worth carrying into another season.
Chelsea’s summer decision
Chelsea have been linked with various left-sided wingers in recent times, and that gives the summer review a sharper edge. BlueCo’s sporting leadership team has five directors and co-owner Behdad Eghbali, and the Garnacho call will sit with them when the club weighs whether there is a market opportunity to get their money back.
If the new head coach can elevate his level, Chelsea could keep him. If not, the review could move the 21-year-old on before the season around him settles at Stamford Bridge.
