Rangers beat Montrose 2-0 to reach final — Bbc Sport Scotland

Rangers beat Montrose 2-0 at Hampden on Sunday afternoon to reach the Scottish Gas Women's Scottish Cup final, and sport scotland now has an Old Firm final to point to on 31 May. Katie Wilkinson scored both goals, finishing seven minutes after the restart and then again from the penalty spot with the last kick of the ball.

Wilkinson Decides Hampden Semi-final

Jodi McLeary created the opener from a corner, and Wilkinson headed in to break Montrose's resistance. Her second goal arrived at the death from the spot, closing out a semi-final that Rangers made harder than the scoreline suggests.

Montrose forced Rangers to work for the place in the final. The match did not open up until after the break, and that made the first goal the turning point in a contest that stayed tight deep into the second half.

Crichton Demands More

Leanne Crichton said she was frustrated with the way Rangers worked and conducted themselves. She said, "I'm more frustrated with how we've worked and how we've conducted ourselves" and added, "Certainly, If you don't want to work hard and track back, and look like you're hungry to win this kind of game, and get to a Cup final, then we simply won't tolerate that."

She also said, "This is where we really need the whole squad to come together. I hope it's a little bit of a wake-up call in how difficult the game was." Rangers are the holders and have reached a fourth consecutive Scottish Cup final, so the standard now rises again before a meeting with Celtic.

Celtic Set Up Old Firm Final

Celtic booked their place by beating Glasgow City 3-2 at Hampden on Saturday, setting up a final against Rangers at the national stadium. Crichton said, "As I say, really push it and get the fans on board." Fewer than 1,000 supporters were inside the ground for Saturday's game, and the final on 31 May gives both clubs a chance to bring a larger crowd to Hampden for a rare Old Firm women's cup final.

For Rangers, the immediate task is simple: turn a narrow semi-final win into a cleaner final performance against a Celtic side that already arrived through a 3-2 win of its own.
