José Soriano Set for White Sox Vs Angels Rematch
José Soriano gets the ball in white sox vs angels on Monday night, and the Los Angeles Angels need a sharper start than their recent run has produced. The Angels enter the series opener after losing 12 of their last 14 games and carrying the worst record in the American League at 13-22.
Soriano Faces Davis Martin Again
Soriano will start against Davis Martin in a rematch of the April 28 meeting, when the right-hander worked five innings against Chicago. He allowed three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out six, and the White Sox answered by getting a second look at the Angels' top starter.
Martin had the better line that day. He threw 5.2 innings of one-run ball against Los Angeles and earned the win, giving Chicago a head-to-head edge before this series opened in Los Angeles.
Angels Carry A 13-22 Record
The Angels' slump has been steep. They lost two of three to the New York Mets over the weekend, scored first in the finale, and still dropped that game 5-1. That followed the sweep Chicago put on them in Chicago one week earlier.
Soriano has been one of the few bright spots. The Angels' starter was the AL Pitcher of the Month and entered this assignment with a 5-1 record, a 0.84 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP through seven starts. He had 49 strikeouts in 42.2 innings.
White Sox Bring Their Own Numbers
Martin has matched the assignment with strong early-season results of his own. He was 4-1 with a 1.95 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP through six starts, with 33 strikeouts in 37 innings.
The rematch starts at 6:38 p.m. PDT on MLB.TV and regional sports networks. Los Angeles gets a chance to erase the memory of that sweep, and Soriano gets the same opponent with the same burden: stop the slide before it grows any deeper.
