Max Holloway Trains for UFC 329 McGregor Rematch Without Contract

max holloway is already in training camp for a Conor McGregor rematch expected for UFC 329, but he still does not have a signed contract. That leaves him preparing for a July main event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas without the paper in place.

Holloway and McGregor

“I mean, it’s just, it sucks,” Holloway said about training without a signed fight contract. He added, “Because, you know, it’s, of course, you don’t have nothing signed or whatever. So training camp is like, it looks like a regular training camp without a contract. My head space is good, it’s straight. I kinda know when I fight. We kinda know where we want to fight, why we want to fight; so, just getting in the gym, getting there, getting it done.”

Holloway also made clear he wants the matchup back. “I’d love to get him back,” he said, adding that a win would be cool because of their history. He called it a huge fight and said, “Anything with Conor McGregor is huge but having history with the dude, being able to get one back would be cool.”

UFC Fight Night 26

Their history goes back to summer 2013, when McGregor beat Holloway by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 26: “Shogun vs. Sonnen.” McGregor left that contest with a blown ACL, and Holloway has not forgotten the result.

Holloway enters the moment at 27-9, while McGregor is 22-6. During McGregor’s five-year absence, Holloway put together five wins, including victories over Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje.

UFC 329 in July

The friction is obvious: Holloway is doing the work now for a fight that has not been signed. UFC 329 remains the expected stage, but until the contract exists, the camp is built on preparation rather than certainty.

For Holloway, that means the immediate task is simple even if the paperwork is not. He is training as if the rematch is coming, and the long wait around McGregor’s return has already shaped the stakes around July in Las Vegas.
