Davey Todd Ruled Out of Nw200 After Medical Examination
Davey Todd has been ruled out of the nw200 this week after a medical examination found him unfit to race. The decision removes a rider who had taken trebles at each of the past two North Wests and changes the shape of the 2026 Briggs Equipment North West 200 before Wednesday practice.
Davey Todd and Mervyn Whyte
Organisers said on Tuesday afternoon that Todd would not take part after the chief medical officer was not satisfied he had recovered sufficiently from the injuries he sustained in a crash at Daytona in Florida in early March. Those injuries included a broken femur, tibia, foot and nose, and he underwent surgery in the USA after the incident.
Race director Mervyn Whyte said, “We are very disappointed that Davey will not be on the grid this year,” He added, “He has enjoyed a lot of success at the North West and a huge following who will be equally disappointed. We would all have loved to have seen him out there racing but safety is paramount.”
Josh Brookes at the Triangle circuit
The same meeting will still feature Josh Brookes, who is returning to the North West 200 this year with DAO Racing. He will race Hondas in the Superbike and Superstock classes and a Suzuki in Supersport in the livery of Uggly and Co.
Brookes said he wants to add a North West win to his record. “I still haven't won a race at the North West and that bothers me a bit,” he said on a recent visit to the Triangle circuit. “Some riders like Alastair Seeley have lots of wins around here and although I don't see that as a target, there's still that thing inside you that thinks I could have, should have, would have won at least once by now.”
“And I've still got that desire that makes me want to come back and try,” he said. Brookes returned to the event in 2025 with Jackson Racing after sitting out 2024, then logged four top-10 finishes across the classes.
Wednesday practice at 10:00 BST
The start of proceedings on the Triangle circuit was slightly delayed, with livestream coverage due to begin at 10:00 BST. Todd’s absence leaves one of the meeting’s most successful recent riders on the sidelines, while Brookes now gets another chance to chase the win that has eluded him at the event.
